Teaching Children Wellness

Beyond What We Already Know: Parental focus on Wellness in Children

We have focused so much on physical wellbeing, more to do with fitness and diet. However, raising a healthy and happy child goes beyond physical health; it is just but part of holistic wellbeing. The emotional and mental wellbeing of a child has to be strengthened and nurtured. Well, the beauty of having a child who is holistically well is that they grow to be responsible people in society. As such, it is crucial to develop a positive attitude toward wellness in children. It boosts their health beyond just being free from diseases. It helps them have control of their bodies and understand when they need to ask for help.

All You Need to Know About Wellness in Children

1. Children need Mental and Emotional Wellness

When growing, children experience different events that can have an impact on their overall wellbeing later in life. Therefore, it is important for their parents and guardians to introduce both emotional and mental wellness practices to ensure they develop well. Ideally, this makes them take control of their mental and emotional wellbeing, making them resilient to different changes as they grow. Children can be taught the attitude of wellness when they are still young. When they learn how to control their mind and emotions, they become physically, emotionally, socially, and mentally healthy. Such holistic health brings happy kids who live long enough to make an impact at different scales.

2. Children Learn Quickly-Introducing Wellness in children is the best Idea

Every interaction when the children are growing is a lesson. Even when they are asleep, children keep on learning.  When the genes of the children are interacting with the environment, they develop experiences that shape their lives. When the concept of wellness is introduced at a young age, the children will grow up knowing that unhealthy lifestyles and pessimism contribute to sickness and sadness. It can be a struggle teaching a child to eat certain foods and discern some of them, especially if it is something they are used to. When the children are young, they can keep of different behaviors or foods as long as the parents caution them against such. When old enough to discern right from wrong, if they do not have a wellness attitude inculcated in them early, they go with the trends, and peer pressure sways them away. So, start now start early for the benefits.

3. Wellness in Children Makes them be in Control

When children are wellness-savvy, they grow up knowing that they can be in control. It is always my happiness seeing children who choose good health and wellness against poor health practices. When children are introduced to the concept of wellness, they become emotionally and mentally stable. As such, they can make important decisions and stand on their terms on matters health. They will understand that too much sugar is bad for their weight and immunity, and can make them vulnerable to different diseases. They will also understand that vegetables are good and candy is just a sweet hazard. If children have a wellness mindset, they grow as people who have control over their behavior. They can also influence others, and a chain of change could solve the problems we have in the world today.

4. Wellness Mindset helps Children Make the Right Choices

Imagine this, if the adults who are currently smoking got a wellness orientation, would they still do it? That is a question for you to think over as you read through this piece. Well, as children grow older if you teach them that smoking cigarettes, doing drugs, and engaging in certain criminal activities is a choice that can bring poor holistic health, they are likely to avoid such. Teach them the art of saying no even when the pressure from peers is too much and explain the reasons behind your reasoning. It is important not to yell, but create a rapport with them-it works magic. Remind them that their choices make them powerful, and a “no” is a powerful man’s weapon against destruction.

5. Wellness in Children Develops Self-Esteem

When the children understand how strong their bodies are and how the decisions they make today affect their tomorrow, we have already won the wellness war. We all mean well for our children. Watching them grow through different stages of development with high self-esteem makes us feel good within us. You need to show your child that their body is strong and that it can perform extraordinary things. For instance, teach the children how the body when well-taken care of, heals quickly. Help them understand the concept of healing and how exercise and good dieting helps the body. Extend the discussion to behavior and how it affects the whole life of your child. Trust me; this is one of the topics that the kids will push you to know more: It never gets old, and one never gets full of wellness discussions.

6. Children who understand Wellness Grow to Be Good Adults

Wellness in children reflects in their later life; this is a concept proven by anecdotal and empirical evidence: enough with domestic violence, substance, and drug abuse, and all the negative things people do for lack of the best option. Wellness encompasses good diet, controlled behavior, discerning of negative habits, and exercising (fitness). When children understand the concept of wellness, they become empowered to visualize or develop positive imagery. As such, children grow as vibrant and vital individuals in society, whose influences go beyond borders. Wellness-savvy children can use imaginations in problem-solving and communicating with their inner body. They also understand the role of physical fitness in their lives.
